TRISH TRAVEL

Finally off on holidays O.S. Taking my daughter with me or should I say she is taking me with her, "cause things have changed since you last travelled Mum". I am still trying to discover what has changed. I did hear her tell the travel agent to speak a little louder because Mum's DEAF, and I am aware that without my glasses the small print is difficult ,and without my  sneakers walking for long distances is harder. Is that the change she means? After all, transport is still by train, plane or automobile; and the map of the world is still the same. I am just a little more mature, but my intent is to have fun. This time I am going to share it with my daughter. What better memories could you develop for the island of your heart?

Tai Chi Tennis

A wonderful low impact exercise. The specially designed rackets are not meant to hit the ball, but to catch, move with the ball and gracefully return it. Exercise by yourself or with friends, indoors or outside. The pace is of your own choosing - from quiet, almost meditation; enjoy a hit and giggle; compete internationally.
Email me at whatcanidoforseniors@hotmail.com if would like a set of 2 rackets, 2 special balls and a custom bag for $30 Aus.plus postage.

Fluorescent age

Ah children - a little like making  a cake: hard work to make, exciting to watch grow ,satisfying when they develop as expected.
I was enjoying this analogy as I asked Sam how the fluorescent sneakers I had tried on looked.

I love Sam no more so than today, when she told me the fluorescent sneakers I  tried on in the shop  were perhaps too bright for my age. My impulsive reaction was to  be immediately defiant, wanting the sneakers  even more. What didn't escape me was that the single-mindedness  of my adolescence was still alive and well, even though my combined  years are enough for a seniors card. The colour of age is not dark  but fluorescent!
A lovely contribution from Trish :)

Our book:What Can I Do?

It's all about having choices!

Trish and I wrote this book for you. We all want to believe that everything will be okay forever. Maybe it will. We can control our eating and lifestyle attitudes. We can control many, but not all factors in our lives.
We can do the best with what we have, and enjoy life.
Sometimes "Plan A" doesn't work out, so then what? How do you find out what to do, or who to ask for help?
That's what we compiled for you. Choices to create your personal "Plan B".
You can peruse it yourself; discuss it at your social group; use it as a tool to start a conversation with your family or your doctor; give it to your kids so they know what to do for you, if you need help.
Knowledge is power. Empower yourself at bookshops or by emailing us at whatcanidoforseniors@hotmail.com

97 year old graduate!

From ABC Australia news 5th May 2012: A 97-year-old New South Wales man will set another world record today when he graduates from Southern Cross University at Lismore.
Allan Stewart from Tea Gardens, north of Newcastle, will graduate with a Master of Clinical Science - Complementary Medicine, making him the world's oldest university graduate.
All credit to Mr Stewart for this impressive feat. It doesn't matter what level of learning you wish to follow - find something that piques your interest and just do it. The brain is exercised, not by doing more of what you already do; the brain grows with NEW ideas. It needs to be fed fresh, tasty food. The best thing about mental stimulation is that it is independent of your physical state.
Make a pledge to yourself to learn at least one thing - big or small - every day.

For mental exercise

For mental exercise, do a course in anything that interests you. At any level, the benefit is thinking about something new, plus the social benefits of meeting with a new group of minds. Look in the local paper, U3A,  School for Seniors, look on your local Council website or even the local library. Join a social interest group and learn a new skill. Currently Robert (hubby) and I are at NMIT doing Bachelor of Writing and Publishing. Amazing how good it feels to stretch the brain again. Yes we are the oldest in the class, but there is more of a mix of ages than we thought. I think it is more fun now than in our twenties. Here's a link to our Uni. Happy thinking!

Welcome all seniors and their friends

Welcome all to our new blog.
Lynda on the left and Trish on the right. We are Trinda; coined by a lecturer at the Sydney Writers' Centre when we said we write together.
In our hands are copies of our resource book, What Can I Do?, for Aussie seniors. Published by Hachette Australia, it is available at bookshops, or order from us.
Our aim is to review everything we come across, from a senior point of view. Topics  will cover travel, creative endeavours, restaurants, accomodation, education, social activities, competitions, exercise choices, health tips and MORE.
We've managed to lose a few kilos since 2009, but we love the photo, so it stays for now:)
